ACCEPTABLE BUILDING MATERIALS DONATIONS


If you have acceptable items that you would like to donate to the ReStore, we would love to have them! Please look below for acceptable and unacceptable donations. Every donation is tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law, and we will provide you with a receipt for your records.

Donations can be dropped off at the ReStore located in the Hilton Shopping Center at 9614 Warwick Boulevard in Newport News during business hours. Please do not leave items outside the store. The ReStore can also pick up donations in one of our trucks by calling 757-246-4955 to schedule a pick up.
 
Acceptable Donations

APPLIANCES
We also accept non-working appliances. You must bring to the ReStore.

ARCHITECTURAL ITEMS
Mantels, columns, stained/leaded glass, molding, etc. in usable amounts (5 ft. or more).

Blinds
Wrapped and taped to prevent tangles.

Bricks
Need to be easily accessible for drivers.

Cabinets
Kitchen and bathroom cabinets free of structural and water damage. We need doors and drawers on all cabinets we accept. No vanity tops accepted without cabinet base.

Carpet
Full intact pieces; no stains or odors; no scraps or odd cuts.

Countertops
4’ long, free of stains, cuts, and other blemishes. No corner pieces.

Doors
Must be free of bowing, twisting, holes deep gouges, water damage and splintering. Slab (flat luan) doors must be in EXCELLENT condition and not be painted.

Flooring
Must be new in box or new and bundled. Carpet should be free of animal/smoke smells, stains, and tears.

Furniture
Should be in good condition. We are unable to accepted strained, ripped, or heavily worn pieces. While we love antique furniture donations, we are unable to accept out-of-date furniture pieces not considered antiques. No mattresses can be accepted.

Electrical
Wiring, fuses, switches, panel boxes etc.

Hardware
Door hinges, nails, screws, fasteners, door pulls, hangers, connectors, etc.

Home décor
Gently used dishes (in complete sets for 4), glasses, pots, pans, flatware, framed mirrors.

Insulation
Must be new and any exposed insulation in clear bags.

Gas Engines
Drained of fuel.

Glass
NO unframed glass or mirrors.

Lighting
Ceiling fans, lights, lamps, and other light fixtures will be accepted.

Lumber
Must be at least 4ft. in length, with no nails, warping, or weathering. Sheet goods (particleboard, plywood, and paneling) must be at least half sheets.

Masonry
Bricks, cinderblock, mortar, etc. Must be easily accessible for drivers.

Paint
New unopened cans only.

Plumbing
Kitchen, pedestal and drop-in sinks, fiberglass bathtubs (no cracks), faucets, toilets (must have tank lid).

Siding
Only new and in boxes, no remnants.

Tools
Hand, power and lawn tools (weedwackers, hedge trimmers, etc).

Windows
Complete units (with all sashes and frame), No sign of rot, cracked glass. No sashes or storm windows.

Wood
At least 4’ lengths, completely de-nailed, free of rot and water damage, no bowing or twisting.

Items we can NOT accept
Clothing, Computers, Slab Doors, Paint, Pesticides, and Storm Windows/Screens
